About the Project
The North Bay Regional Health Centre is comprised of a three-storey district hospital significantly larger than the previous facilities and equipped to offer more services. It also includes the two-storey main site for the regional specialized mental health service. The new North Bay Regional Health Centre has a combined total of 388 beds.
The District Hospital has expanded services to include:
- A larger Emergency Department to accommodate over 57,000 patients per year;
- A new Ambulatory Care Centre, consolidating all outpatient clinics, and capable of treating over 63,000 patient visits per year;
- 235 acute care beds and a new 40-bed acute adult mental health unit;
- An expansion from 10 to 16 beds in the Critical Care Unit, 10 to 42 beds in Complex Continuing Care, and 10 to 29 beds in Rehabilitation Care.
The Regional Mental Health Centre is linked to the District Hospital via a shared entrance leading into a cafeteria that unites the two facilities. The mental health centre accommodates 52 forensic psychiatry beds and 61 regional specialized mental health beds.
Plenary Health was awarded the contract to build, finance and maintain the North Bay Regional Health Centre over 33 years (3 years construction, 30 years maintenance).
